The bash shell is, of course, the standard shell of Linux. Given that most of us in the Unix world are probably going to be doing some Linux no matter what happens, it's not at all a bad idea to become familiar with this.
But even beyond that, I liked this book as a general shell programming text. I liked the careful attention to details; the noting of the little quirks and gotcha's that some other authors might pass over.
So, this is one of the better ones. Don't hesitate to recommend it to folks wanting to learn shell programming: bash and ksh are very similar.
Good book, well done.
