SSH

(NEWEST POST)
Questions on ssh When I learned that 5.0.7 already had SSH installed, I immediately uninstalled MY version. Would this have deleted any files that the included version needed? What do I need to do to restore/reinstall the included version?
ssh forwarding Ssh forwarding is powerful stuff, but using it can be confusing. For example, let's say we have a machine that our firewall will send traffic to, but we actually want to ssh to another internal machine. To be specific: 192.168.2.1 is the machine that we can access from outside using "server.xyz.com", but we really want to ssh to 192.168.2.10 with user "fred". To make it even more interesting, "fred" isn't a valid username on 192.168.2.1, but "john" is. We know passwords for both accounts.
How can I restrict who can login with ssh? We often have systems that have run for years with no connection to the outside world, and now suddenly an Internet connection is added and ssh access is set up. Unfortunately, many users have weak or even blank passwords. If only some users need to use ssh, it's best to set up new users with strong passwords and restrict ssh to only those users.
