What's here?

Lot's of stuff. Unix and Linux Help, Tutorials, Resources and information for Unix/Linux, Mac OS X and other general computing related topics. Advice for bloggers, the self-employed, computer techs: thousands of articles, reviews, consultants listings, skills tests, opinion, how-to's, suggestions and more. This is not yet another mirror of the Linux LDP or someone else's Unix FAQs. If you've never been here before, there's a lot to explore.

I have been a "Unix consultant" since 1983, and this is the place where I collected stuff I needed to know and wrote up explanations for other people. See Services if you need a consultant.

It's "APLawrence" because that's me: Anthony P. Lawrence. Call me "Tony". At the moment "pcunix.com" also points here, so you can reach it either way, but the search engines prefer APLawrence and I'm not going to argue with them.

The long (very long) version of this is at More about APLawrence.com. More information about my background is at Experience.

There's a lot here. Many, many years of stuff, some of which is as new as yesterday and some of which is older than dirt. I don't delete the "old junk" because somebody, somewhere, just might need to know whatever that ancient post has to say.

The boat? Years ago, I had a partner named Kevin Clark. Our company was Lawrence and Clark, Inc. Naturally even, people kept wanting to say "Lewis and Clark" - so we had that logo designed.. you can read more about that at More about aplawrence.com.

Please enjoy yourself - we have an open comment system and do welcome your opinions.

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.

Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
