This answers one of the problems of most systems that require the administrator to control everything. An administrator still can set global parameters with Maia, but can let the users set their own preferences too.

This does have some quirks; see http://www.renaissoft.com/maia/caveats.php for those.

Of course it would be a better world if we didn't need spam and virus scanning at all. Imagine, no viri, no spam, no spyware - what would we tech folk do all day? Before all this came to be, we were busy enough, but that was back when we could count on at least one disk drive failure per hundred machines per month, and when machines were so weak that tuning was a regular gig. But now? We'd be unemployed.
