Will I add your link?

August 2005

Following up on yesterday's post on link farms and other web trash, what does it take to get this site to link to you? Actually, it isn't all that hard, and there are a number of ways to get that link.

First, if you are a Unix or Linux computer consultant, you can add a free listing to our consultants page. That gets you a plug for your business and your web page. Second, if you write for this site, you can get your site link in the article. Finally, if you have a product or other high content web site, I might list it at the Links section.

(I'm no longer offering the free links described below.)

But what if you just want to promote your site? I haven't really offered any way to do that in the past, but a promotion over at Blog Herald gave me an idea. Over there, they ran a 100 blogs in 100 days promotion. I'm going to do something like that, but a little different. First, I'm not going to limit it to 100 days. This will run as long as I do. Second, your site has to be related to something we talk about here. That's it: just send me an email (don't put it in comments here) describing your site and I'll promote it here. Simple enough?

Remember, your page has to be relevant - we do cover a lot of ground here, so that shouldn't be too restrictive, but please do keep that in mind. I'm not going to link to link farms or other junk, either, but if you have a real site related to Unix or Linux and want some extra exposure, I'm happy to help.

You need to send me email to propose a link, and if you can't figure out how to do that, see the Contact Info link under Resources.

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.

Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
