Happy Turkey Day

Here in the States, it's Turkey Day - oops, sorry, Thanksgiving. The religious are supposed to give thanks for whatever they have enjoyed this year, and the rest of us get to over eat.

I don't think anyone will be thankful for the newest security threats.

There's been another PHP worm: XML-RPC Threatens Linux, Unix Systems, and another potentially bad exploit that affects Internet Explorer: Zero-Day Exploit Targets IE

It's amazing to me that this stuff just keeps on coming. Of course the IE is once again an Active Scripting exploit: when is Microsoft going to fix this? As for PHP, well, at least this one is an optional add-on that you aren't necessarily running, but sheesh, aren't we sick of hearing about PHP problems?

Oh well: we have stuffing to prepare. It snowed a bit here overnight, but we have less than a mile to travel for dinner - if it weren't for the stuffing we could walk over.

I hope all of you with this as a holiday have tomorrow off also. I usually get at least one emergency call on holidays like this, because IT folk quite naturally see it as a great time to do upgrades: fewer users around to complain. But that's OK: if the tryptophan in the turkey doesn't have me cutting Z's on the couch, I'll be available. Gobble, gobble.

Last time I got one was in 2002. People should learn to lighten up and celebrate holidays instead of grubbing for every last pennie that they can get.

Well, it's not always grubbing. I think if boss Scrooge tells the IT department to do an upgrade over a holiday, they ought to stuff him. But if an IT guy decides it would be easier for him to tear things up without so many users screaming, then that's OK.
