TCP/IP and NFS FAQ

I see in netstat that processes get stuck in TIME_WAIT for a long time. How can I change this behaviour?

For some reason, OpenServer sets that to 30 minutes even while stating that the recommended setting is 4 minutes!

You can edit /etc/default/inet and change tcp_2msl to lower the time. Stop and restart tcp/ip or reboot.

Using XP Pro:
When I mis-type my pw in Tiny term it locks me out for 2 minutes - how do I change that "time_wait" period so I can re-enter the pw immediately?

That's absolutely nothing to do with tcp/ip. That's password policies.

You can edit /etc/default/inet and change tcp_2msl to lower the time. Stop and restart tcp/ip or reboot.

Actually, you can do this "on the fly" with the command inconfig tcp_2msl <value>, where <value> is some integer between 1 and 65,535 inclusive. /etc/default/inet will be updated and the running kernel will be changed without having to restart TCP services.
