Tony Lawrence: Aneroid Comptometer

One afternoon when our youngest child was about two, I was trying to read a book, and she needed to be entertained. As a stalling ploy, I asked her to go get my Aneroid Comptometer.

To my surprise, she galloped off somewhere, was gone a few minutes, and came back with one of her toys. I looked at it, and said "No, Kate. The Aneroid Comptometer- you know, the blue one!". Kate giggled and ran off once again.

We kept this up for ten or fifteen minutes. She was amused, and I got to read snatches of my book until the novelty wore off.
