1 Product Description

Caldera Volution Manager is a secure, Web-based, systems management
solution that reduces the cost of deploying and managing established
versions of Linux (over 35) and Caldera UNIX -- Open UNIX 8, UnixWare 7,
and SCO OpenServer from Caldera. Volution Manager does so by enabling
secure, remote management, monitoring and updating of multiple systems
through a browser. Volution Manager does this through key components
like asset management, software distribution, and health monitoring with
proactive response capabilities. Volution Manager's architecture is based
on open standards/technologies (e.g., XML, LDAP, SNMP, Apache, HTTPS) and
interoperates with all SNMP-based management frameworks. Volution
Manager saves time, scales resources, eases deployments and does so in
a cost-effective manner.

Caldera International is now accepting orders for the Volution Manager
Release 1.1. Worldwide first customer shipments will begin prior to the
end of February 2002.

8 Licensing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Caldera Volution Manager has components that are licensed. One license
is for the Volution Manager server software and the other one is required
for each system that will come under management. The first license is
obtained through the initial purchase of the Base Edition of the product.
It allows the Volution Manager Server software to be installed and run
on one OpenLinux Server. The Base Edition also includes a license for 10
systems to be managed by Caldera Volution Manager. These licenses can be
for any of the supported platforms - there is no specific license for
Linux, SCO OpenServer from Caldera, or UnixWare/Open UNIX 8. Licenses
for additional nodes to come under management (beyond the first 10), or
licenses to add additional Caldera Volution Manager servers can be
purchased as needed. Discounts become available when volume purchases
are made.
Volution Online for Volution Manager is a subscription service that is
provided on an annual basis. It is licensed according to the number of
systems under management of Volution Manager. Pricing mirrors that of
the per system cost of Volution Manager. Separate Volution Online for
Volution Manager Model Numbers are provided for subscriptions.

15 System Requirements
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please refer to the Caldera Compatible Hardware Web Page at

for more information on supported peripherals. Caldera recommends that
your system meets or exceeds the following requirements:
Caldera Volution Manager Server (Hosted on OpenLinux Server 3.1.1)
Processor: At least one Intel Intel Pentium II, Intel
Pentium III, Intel Pentium 4 microprocessor, or
a microprocessor that is 100 percent compatible
with the same running at least 200 Mhz.
Architecture: Conformance to the Industry Standard
Architecture (ISA) (also called an AT bus),
Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA),
Peripheral Component Interface (PCI), or
Intelligent Input/Output (I2O) standards.
Memory: A minimum of 256 MB of RAM. Performance is
enhanced as more RAM is added.
If your Volution Manager Server is also your
LDAP Server an additional 128 MB of RAM for a
total of 384 is recommended
OpenLinux Server can support up to 64GB of RAM
for general-purpose usage.
Disk size and A hard disk of 1.3 GB or larger is recommended.
Partitions: An additional 50 to 120 MB of disk space might
be required for Volution Manager, depending on
the packages selected during the OpenLinux
installation.
Mouse: A serial, bus, or PS/2-compatible mouse is
recommended to access all graphical desktop
functionality.
Video: A Super VGA monitor and video adapter capable of
at least640x480 resolution is required to run
the graphical desktop.
LDAP Server
System requirements for the LDAP server are dependent on the LDAP
directory chosen. Three LDAP directories are supported: OpenLDAP,
Netscape's iPlanet Directory and Novell's eDirectory.
See their documentation for system requirements. As a note, if you
are going to run Novell's eDirectory as the LDAP directory, you must
run it on a different system from the Volution Manager server. There
is a conflict that requires it to run independently on another system.
Volution Manager Client
Processor: 386, 486 or Pentium
Memory: 32MB minimum or more of RAM.
Disk space: 6MB of space is required for the Volution
Manager client.
