Microlite Corporation Ships BackupEDGE SS
Aliquippa PA (October 01, 2001) -- Microlite Corporation announced that
it has begun shipping its next generation BackupEDGE SS(tm).
BackupEDGE SS is the first commercial backup and crash recovery software
product to support bootable tape, DVD-RAM and CD-R/RW backups under
Linux, SCO OpenServer 5, Caldera Open UNIX 8 and UnixWare 7.
"Every minute of downtime costs money.", said Tom Podnar, President of
Microlite. "First, we asked our clients what they really wanted in a
next-generation product. Then we combined leading-edge storage
technologies with our over 14 years of backup software and 11 years of
disaster recovery engineering experience to create a product that
extends our lead in providing best-of-class ease of use, device support,
and ultimately value and benefit for our users."
Brief Features List
===================
o Backups may be made to tape, CD-R/RW or DVD-RAM media. No special
device driver is needed for DVD-RAM. It is seen as a CD-ROM by the
operating system.
o Crash Recovery media may be created on floppy, CD-R/RW, DVD-RAM or
OBDR(tm) bootable tape.
o The above two features may be combined to create bootable backups
on CD-R/RW, DVD-RAM, and OBDR tape drives.
o Full, verified Master, Differential, and Incremental Backups may be
made.
o Multiple, purpose built backup domains may be created using a
wizard. Domains may specify pre and post-backup operations, lists
of files to include or exclude, and more.
o New scheduler provides advanced scheduling, tracking and
notification for multiple jobs.
o Notification system provides text, HTML, alpha-pager and numeric
pager formatted messages, as well as printed summaries. Two groups
of users and printers may be created: one to get all pass,
failure, and warning messages, and an escalation group receiving
failure and warning messages only.
o Improved Installation Wizard detects tape drives,
autochangers/loaders/libraries, and CD-R/RW and DVD-RAM devices.
Also sets up default backup schedules.
o Fast File Restore (from tape) and Instant File Restore(tm) (from
CD-R/RW, DVD-RAM and file archives) provides the fastest possible
restoration of files and directories.
o New file selector with bash-like interface provides easy, confirmed
access to files to be restored.
o Remote devices are accessed with full hardware control. Users may
choose either the Remote Shell (rsh/rcmd) or the Secure Shell (ssh)
as the transport layer.
o All crash recovery media contain full network stacks. Users may
restore from remote devices. Additionally, remote administrators
may telnet or modem directly into the crash recovery media to take
over a disaster recovery session.
o Crash Recovery media have OneTouch Restore(tm) for easy, automatic
crash recovery. Users may also select use the full configuration
interface to customize the restore or for disk optimization.
All of the above features work on each of the following operating systems
o SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 or later
o Caldera Open UNIX 8
o UnixWare 7 release 7.1 or later
o Linux systems with 2.2.x or 2.4.x kernels on Intel Platforms
