PROTECT YOUR DATA
Your data is your organizations' Life Line.
What would it cost your company if the data on your server were
lost entirely, or inpart?
Daily backups and a method of crash recovery are crucial for any
organization that relies on computers to operate.
****************************************************************
1. WARNING Notice to ALL LONE-TAR Users
====================================
Earlier versions of LONE-TAR, prior to 11/4/98, had a date math
problem which caused the program to stop working on April 19, 2001.
We have a patch available on our web site that will permanently fix
this problem. However, the version of LONE-TAR running is out of
support and still has other problems associated with Y2K compliancy.
Therefore, we are recommending, not forcing, that an UPGRADE to the
most current version of the software be obtained immediately.
*** YOUR DATA IS AT RISK HERE ***
Lone Star Software will not be held accountable for any Y2K or
other problems that may arise from using any older version as
outlined in this newsletter.

The date math problem also exists with all products by Cactus
International that were purchased prior to 11/4/98. There is also
a patch available on our web site to permanently fix these products.
Here again, we are strongly recommending that you upgrade to the most
current version of the software.

6. Rescue-Ranger(tm) - LINUX Crash Recovery
========================================
Introducing, Rescue-Ranger, the latest crash recovery software
for Linux. While some of you have already discovered this product,
we have not yet formerly introduced it to everyone.
Rescue-Ranger generates a set of bootable diskettes, and when booted
from, displays an easy to use menu system to aide in recovering a
Linux system from a crash. Crash recovery features from the menu
include Fully Automated Restore, and Step by Step recovery utilizing
the Utilities Menu. Rescue-Ranger can even be used to restore to a
larger hard drive in most cases, giving the flexibility to re-size
filesystems on the fly. This is an extremely time saving utility,
especially when the alternative is sitting behind the computer screen
watching a complete re-installation of the operating system.
Rescue-Ranger currently supports the following distributions of Linux:
o RedHat Linux V5.2 and greater - * See Note Below *
o Caldera eServer and eDesktop
o Mandrake 6.1 and greater
o Debian
o Corel
o Stormix
o SlackWare
o TurboLinux
Note: We are currently working on RedHat 7.x support and will keep
everyone posted on the progress. Our goal is to have a full
version available for RedHat 7.x by the end of May.
Rescue-Ranger is included with LONE-TAR for Linux.
