PROBLEM: There have been several problems reported when trying to use a Mylex
RAID adapter with a tape unit attached. Although SCO ARCserve/Open
will find and work with the tape unit in this configuration, there
are other known issues when attempting to use all of the features
of SCO ARCserve/Open.
Problems that have been confirmed:
1. The emergency root/boot floppies cannot be created using the
'mkarcboot' command.
2. ARCserve/Open will not see a tape changer. This problem has been
confirmed by Cheyenne working with Mylex. The MDAC driver does not
support multiple LUNs with the various SCSI ids.

PROBLEM: During installation of the SCO XENIX Development System, I am
asked to choose a default terminal description library for use
with the curses(S) screen handling package. I can choose
"terminfo", "termcap" or "no default package" by selecting neither.
Which curses package should I choose?

PROBLEM: I want to be able to mount a secondary filesystem (such as /u)
at boot, so I can have access to the content in single-user
mode. I've tried using the "At System Startup" option in the
File System Manager, but it doesn't mount the filesystem until
I go into multiuser mode.

PROBLEM: I am attempting to restore my root filesystem using tape
backups and emergency boot and root floppy diskettes.
I have successfully booted my system from the boot/root
floppy diskettes and have mounted /dev/hd0root onto the
/mnt mountpoint. I have changed my working directory
to /mnt.
When I type this command:
# cpio -icvud -I/dev/{tapedevicenode}
I see this error message:
NOTICE: HTFS: No space on dev ram (31/7)
cpio: cannot write /_BACKUP_CONTENTS_:...
...No Space left on device (error 28)
Why am I getting this error message and how do I restore
my root filesystem?

PROBLEM: My system is running out of clists even when the NCLIST is set
at very high values. Increasing the NCLIST kernel tunable
parameter only allows the system to run longer between crashes.
In some cases, the kernel seems to lose clists even when idle.
For example, it will crash at night with no cron jobs running.
The kernel message is:
putc - Out of clists (NCLIST = xxxx exceeded); yyyy failures so far

PROBLEM: Some or all of my users, possibly including root, are unable to
use passwd(ADM) to change their password. If root is affected,
then root is unable to change other users' passwords as well.
The user is prompted for the old and new password, but after
entering the password the second time, they get the message:
Password cannot be changed; see Account Administrator.
In some cases, only root is affected; in others, all or some
users are affected. You may find you can change passwords in
Maintenance mode, but not as root in multiuser mode.

This is a Unix/Linux resource website. It contains technical articles about Unix, Linux and general computing related subjects, opinion, news, help files, how-to's, tutorials and more. We appreciate comments and article submissions.
Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
