Once again, someone who can't be bothered to search.

I'm not going to answer your first question. Type "tcgetattr" into the search box above and read for yourself.

For the second, if you mean to be running system accounting, then do what it says. If you don't understand what accton is, type "accton" into the search here or "man accton" on the box and learn.

Hmmm.... well, how would you know to search for accton rather than accton1? And searching for "Update /usr/lib/acct/holidays with holidays" produces lots of stuff on google, but not much around here...

He wouldn't know that it was accton. That's why I told him. Searching for "Update /usr/lib/acct/holidays with holidays" is wrong: always, always always search for ONE word first and then, if you get too much, add more words.

It has almost come to the point, where almost every issue has a post on the net somewhere, and most SCO specific issues are on this site. There are very few times I have not been able to solve my problems with a google search, or the search tool on this site. Occasionally, I will be in a hury, and try to find something quickly, and always want to send Tony an email or post here, and usually get it solved by calming down, and spending the few extra seconds it takes to search.

Sometimes, I do have an issue, where it is hard to put into words, and usually find something related in a usenet post or something, that leads me on the trail. Speaking of trails, and detective work, Tony, one of my favorite "columns" on this site, is the detective work posts. Those are my favorite. In fact, I wonder if someone has written a book in this format. Of course, books like this could be volumes long, but case studies of fairly indepth issues are always a fun read. Those real odd ball problems are even more fun to find out how to fix.

Hope everyone is doing well in the heat....

Heat? What heat? Only wimps would call 90+ temperatures "heat." <Grin>

We're heading for the mountains shortly.. a little cooler up there.

I have a small pile of computer books to read and review this weekend.. not really in the mood, so they may just sit untouched. Our anniversary is next week (38 years) but we have too many other things happening then so we're going to cheat and celebrate early - yet another reason not to work this weekend.

Aw, who am I kidding? The books won't be ignored..

We're heading for the mountains shortly.. a little cooler up there.

No mountains around here, just endless fields of corn, most of which is in danger of burning up from high temperatures and low rainfall. We are looking forward to the first harvest of sweet corn (which we grill and consume in great quantities), but may be disappointed if the weather doesn't cooperate soon.

Our anniversary is next week (38 years)...

Not many things last 38 years nowadays, so that is an achievement of which to be proud. I'm amazed that your wife has put up with you all this time. To hear my wife, we computer jocks are a strange bunch. I keep trying to tell her I'm perfectly normal but she just gives me a skeptical look. <Sigh>

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
