+Do I have to reinstall everything or can it be fixed some other easier way?
+Any recommendations?

Note that df tells you that the size of the root filesystem is 8657950K (it
reports in 1/2K blocks), which is exactly the same as the sum of the sizes of
your root and u divisions as reported by divvy. The problem with this system
is that after the system was installed, someone reduced the size of the root
division and used that space for the u filesystem. You can't do that; whatever
data the root filesystem had stored on the space taken away from it is now
inaccessible to it (and at this point, wiped out by the u filesystem).

Your only viable option is to save any important information on your root
filesystem (if you can access it), save the data on your u filesystem, and then
reinstall. Backups from before the divvy table was modified may help in this
process. When you reinstall, be sure to allocate space to the u filesystem at
install time (or put it on a separate drive).

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.

Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
