bash echo

What is this stuff?

If this isn't exactly what you wanted, please try our Search (there's a LOT of techy and non-techy stuff here about Linux, Unix, Mac OS X and just computers in general!):

which usually needs expanding upon...
the difference between the built-in "echo" in sh vs bash sounds like a
cosmetic issue, but it's a bit more than cosmetic when no one on your 90
user system can print a thing but garbage. and depending on how well
you've learned the lessons unix has definetly clubbed you over the head
with before about making assumptions, you may insist for a little while
that the last thing you did (installed bash and made it root's normal
shell) could possibly have anything to do with this totally unrelated
printing problem that just happened to hit at the same time by a fluke.
good thing you've got bash though to help you burn through all the
commands faster with that great up-arrow and tab-completion and what-not.

now, just go ahead and say to thyself... ahhok, well, so I fixed the
printer interface scripts now and it's safe now right? and I'll just have
to shake my head and sigh at the unfortunate number of hard lessons you
are destined to suffer yet before true enlightenment descends and
envelopes you. But, keep plugging. It will come. Because you even *use*
unix without a gun pointed at you, that alone speake massively for your
taste and capacity and so I'm sure it will come!

:)

PS - you'll just have to trust me this was intended to humor, not insult.
I don't expect a smily to be proof, since I know waty too many who put
smilys on the nastiest messages like that makes it any better. you know
the type, they do the same exact thing in person face to face and over the
phone.

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
