No, you are not an idiot :-) It just "arrived" there recently. Looks very nice, btw. The "postscribble" driver is a pass through driver. It takes what your Windoze clients send it and pass it to the 14i laser printer essentially unchanged. >However, when I print to it from Windows 2000 Server (i.e. printed the test >page from the properties dialog) then it prints lines which look like ") >Line(%%Title: Test Page". When I configured the printer as a network printer >on Windows 2000 it asked me for a driver and I pointed it to the postscript >driver for Windows 2000 which comes with the Okidate cdrom. I had a hell of time finding getting Windoze 2000 to properly print to various print servers. I'll assume you're using "print to a standard printer port" and have selected LPR/LPD on port 515. The trick was to turn off all the "enhanced" features on the Windoze 2000 end. Then, I "updated" the Windoze 2000 printer driver for the HP4000 and everything went nuts. That's when I found that the user friendly install shoved in the NT4 driver and not the W2K driver. See: http://www.windows2000faq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=15259 for the damage control method. Then, I installed W2K Service Pack #2 which cleverly reset some (not all) of the print spooler setting back to the defaults which included turning on the "enhanced" features that drove me nuts to begin with. Hint: Buy a print server and have your client machines print directly to the print server and not go through two servers (Windoze 2K server and then the OSR5 server) to get to the printer. -- Jeff Liebermann 150 Felker St #D Santa Cruz CA 95060 (831)421-6491 pgr (831)426-1240 fax (831)336-2558 home http://www.LearnByDestroying.com WB6SSY jeffl@comix.santa-cruz.ca.us jeffl@cruzio.com

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.
Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
