As swap space, it's major overkill. If the system was actually using
2GB of memory space, such that a full 1GB had to be pushed out to swap,
it would be so slow that your users would revolt.
However, OpenServer also uses swap space for kernel panic dumps. There
is no good mechanism to have the kernel dump less than the size of
physical memory. So you are strongly recommended to make swap at least
as large as RAM (optionally, as large as how much RAM you might add
later -- remember that OSR5 supports a maximum of 4GB RAM). Then if you
ever have panic problems, it will be relatively easy to capture a dump
for analysis.
4GB of disk costs ... let's see, maybe $10 for IDE, $25 for SCSI,
according to pricewatch (x2 to convert to $AU...). Or 1/4 of that for
enough to cover just your current memory size.
