Failure to work normally manifests itself with symptoms, something you've
failed to supply. What have you tried and how does it fail? Are you
trying to do everything from "Network Neighborhood"? Don't bother. Add
you OSR5 machine to c:\windoze\hosts and c:\windoze\lmhosts. Then run:
NET MAP \\OSR5_BOX\Share_name J: (I like to use my initials)
You can also get a server shopping list with:
        NET VIEW
Give it a while with a large lan. You OSR5 box should be listed.

You can also trick Windoze into doing a master browser refresh by using
the "Find -> Computer" thing on the start menu. Inscirbe the OSR5_BOX
name in the computer search window, and it just might find it. Network
Neighborhood should then work.

Since you have a WAN, you also have a router or two. Can you ping the
OSR5 machine from the client machines? Can you telnet? Can you ftp?

Sure, if you add a static route in the routers to cross over the subnets.
if you can ping, telnet and ftp, this has already been done. You'll also
need to open ports 137 -> 139 to get NETBIOS to work through the pipe.
Methinks this may be the problem.

VisionFS is fine. It's basically free and is licensed for the same
number of users as the system it's sitting upon. There are other options
(Samba) but they will run into the same subnet and IP port problems at
the routers. Best to get your router person involved.

Also, try searching:

for whatever unpsecified symptoms you're getting.

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
