This could eliminate a lot of security problems. Yes, it can also cause problems for certain apps, but hey, you gain some, you lose some. Overall, it is probably a very positive step.

Of course, the obvious question is why should the hardware make up for deficiencies in the OS design? This isn't a problem in the *NIX environment. It's mostly a remedy for bugs in the Windows kernel.

Well, it's useful for the OS to use hardware capabilities. There are Linux patches for the same purpose.
