Ballmer needs love

Aww, poor Steve Ballmer: he thinks we don't love him any more. He's miffed that Apple is "the darling".

Steve? Listen carefully. Nobody ever liked Microsoft. People used Windows because it was cheap and that's where the software was, but nobody ever felt any love for Microsoft. How can you love a rapacious monopolist who takes ideas from everyone and has the nerve to call it innovation?

Apple always had excitement, emotion, verve. Microsoft has patents, copyrights and lawsuits. Apple's leaders have been people of passion, Microsoft's have been snake-oil salesmen and bean counters.

Microsoft is about money. Billions for Bill. Of course Apple needs a bottom line too, but money isn't the first thing that comes to your mind when I say Apple. Here, give it a try:

Apple.

You thought about G5's and iPods, right?

Microsoft

You thought about money, didn't you?

Now Steve, you try it. I say "Apple" and I know you'll be thinking iPod and Intel Macs too. But when I say "Microsoft", you see "$$$$", don't you? You see, Steve, that's the reason Apple is the "darling" and Microsoft is not.

And never was.
