My blog is worth $24,839.76.
How much is your blog worth?
That graphic of George over to the right claims this website is worth more than $24,000.00
Well, that's pretty ridiculous. It's based on Technorati links, which was 138 from 44 sites at this writing. But who made Technorati the decision point for such calculations? What about the nearly 1,000 pages that Google says link here?
I think I'd have a hard time selling it even at that, though. If you look on eBay for websites being sold, very few get more than a few hundred dollars. Admittedly most of the sites offered are junk adult or affiliate marketing sites that really have no value, but even the few "real" sites that turn up often go unsold because the owner's reserve wasn't met. Web sites are not hot properties.
Not that it matters. I wouldn't sell this site for anything less than several million, because it's worth that much to me in consulting opportunities alone - with interest rates paying so little, I'd need quite a pile of cash to make up for the loss. There's no way it would be worth anything like that to anyone else, of course.
The more interesting thing is what's behind this, and that was the AOL purchase of Weblogs, Inc. Even that gets complicated, because although bloggers may think that indicates more value for their individual blogs, it probably doesn't. The software that drives the network was probably what interested AOL more than anything. The ads running on those blogs is surely something AOL wants a finger in too, especially the more popular members like Engadget.
So this may mean nothing at all to the lone unaffiliated blogger, but that won't stop folks from dreaming. It's all just for fun, or perhaps a more creative way to keep track of your Technorati links.

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.
Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
