Googlezon and Epic

I completely missed the original debut of Epic 2014, a fictional film which posits the merger of Google and Amazon leading the the ultimate "Epic" ( Evolving Personalized Information Construct ) news clipping service. The film says:

At its best, edited for the saviest readers, EPIC is a summary of
the world - deeper, broader and more nuanced than anything ever
available before.

But at its worst, and for too many, EPIC is merely a collection of
trivia, much of it untrue, all of it narrow, shallow and sensational.
 

As we used to say in fifth grade recess, "So what else is new?"

Maybe you and I read serious news media, but a large part of the population isn't interested in any more news than you'll hear on a teenager oriented radio station. If these people buy a newspaper, it's for the sports sections, the comics, and the entertainment pages. If they read any of the news stories at all, it's probably just the ones where someone was decapitated by an angry spouse. The trivia already exists, is already the staple diet. Googlezon and Epic wouldn't change anything.

Don't blame the Internet for dumbing down the population. The masses are already uninterested in intellectual challenge or considered analysis.
