Mike Desrosiers updated his AIX Operating System Hardening Procedures & Security Guide

Over at foo-mac, I've reviewed WS and ACP Web Services and Applejack.

On the blogging front at foo-web, it's the usual ranting and raving, but also a review of http://aplawrence.com/foo-web/urltrends.html">URLTrends and http://aplawrence.com/foo-web/ad-revenue.html">The Gorilla, the Cowboy, and the Banana, plus http://aplawrence.com/foo-web/blogging-networks.html">Should you join a blog network?.

Finally, an unusual review at foo-self-employed of a stapler; strange, but it is cool.

Back in the real world, the work we've been doing around the house is almost done - nothing but really minor touchups here and there are left. Septic system upgrade left a big bare spot in the lawn that will have to wait for spring, and there are some small scrapes and dings inside that need a little paint, but we are pretty much done. A bunch of stuff to put back where it belongs, a few more piles of trash bags, and that's it.

A little raking today, inside cleaning and vacuuming - it's starting to look like a house again. Yesterday we were able to sit down and eat for the first time in months - we've been eating standing up or sitting in a chair with no table. Sitting at a table felt like such a luxury..

The holidays are rushing toward us, and probably snow, too. Interest rates are up, gas prices are down, and everything costs more than it should. As soon as the sun comes up, I'm going to go rake and forget about computers.

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.

Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
