Regular readers of these reviews know that I get excited when a book teaches me things I didn't know. If the author can do that and also write well and be entertaining, I tend to fall over in a swoon.

Well, yes, this book knocked me out. The subtitle is "Everything you need to know that wasn't on the CCNA Exam" and it's all that and so much more.

First, the author apolgizes for concentrating on Cisco equipment. He didn't need to: even if you've never touched a piece of Cisco hardware in your life, you'll still find this valuable. If your world does include Cisco, it will be even more so, but don't discard this as less valuable if not.

I particularly enjoyed that the author illustrates many concepts with mistakes and misteps he made himself. This isn't ivory tower networking, this is a guy who trips over cables and knocks out a whole company.

Networking from A-Z. Switches, routers and hubs, oh my. Everything you need to know and then some. Worth the money, worth twice the money, maybe worth three times the money. Buy it.
