While of course it's great that Intuit supports Mac platforms, it is in a way disappointing that Mac OS 9.2 is still supported; this of course means that this must be a non-Unix version. If QuickBooks were a true OS X only, that would mean that Intuit could then easily port to Linux and BSD, which would be great news.

However, there's at least some indication that they are starting to move in that direction: some features are "Panther only". That's probably less to do with their code than the OS features itself at this point, but perhaps the next version may be more Unix oriented.

QuickBooks is a very important app. I certainly understand Intuit's reluctance to port it, but if they did a real OS X version, QuickBooks for Linux wouldn't be a tremendous extra effort.
