Just some comments on your web site thread on REV.

The fastest native speeds of this device are going to be achieved when compression is turned OFF. Otherwise, CPU software compression time dictates part of the actual net speed.

I recommend three separate tests to determine an appropriate level of performance for REV.

1) Set compression for the REV to (N)one. Do a scheduled master backup and then grab the summary results. This of course is most useful if you require less than the 35GB (32.64GB in 1024^3 gigabytes) native capacity of the REV.

2) Set compression for the REV to (S)oftware. Do a scheduled master backup and then grab the summary results. This will perform a backup at compress level 5, our default.

3) If you are nowhere near using up the capacity of the REV with compression, Set compression for the REV to (S)oftware. edit /usr/lib/edge/config/master.cfg uncomment # EDOM_COMPLEV=5 change it to read EDOM_COMPLEV=1 This will reduce the compression level to 1 and should increase the net (compress + write) performance of the drive. Do a scheduled master backup and then grab the summary results.

Check the times for all three backups. You'll find that you can dial-in the performance of the REV significantly with this technique.

Oh, if you want to really see the REV shine...

1) Insert a REV cartridge from a recent backup. 2) cd to any directory where you need to restore a single file 3) edge.restore -f dvd0 filename

This will use Instant File Restore to imediately access and restore the file.

Of course, from any directory you could: edge.restore -f dvd0 /path/[path]/file_or_directory
